Why? Because newborn babies have such thin, fair skin that they tend to look very blotchy, especially with flash photography. Black-and-white images create luminous, flawless skin on newborn babies. I have been so fortunate to be invited to photograph this newborn angel just a day after his birth. We managed over a hundred priceless images right in his hospital room! I LOVE weddings! I enjoy everything about being a wedding photographer. I have been doing it for over 20 years and consider every wedding I have photographed a tremendous honor. I take great pride in the work that I do at a wedding and understand there is no value one can put on images of memories that can never be recaptured. The pictures of my own wedding are second only to my darling husband as my favorite part of our wedding. I realize that a couple who invests in quality professional wedding photography want work that will be lasting and treasured for generations.
I offer a very flexible pricing structure for my clients. I will customize any package to fit the needs and budget of each client. All wedding photography must be paid in full before the day of the wedding, but for those on a limited budget, there is always an option to purchase more after the wedding.
One feature that I include in my packages is the opportunity for you to purchase all images on CD with the Copyright Release. That means you own every image in digital format and all the rights and privileges to print, share and create as you want. I edit and enhance every image and provide you will a color-correct print to have for a standard to compare with any other prints you may make. This is something a lot of photographers don't offer and a huge factor you should consider when making a decision about your wedding photography.
There are several factors that one should consider when choosing a professional for their wedding photography. The FIRST is budget. What can you afford without going into debt? Make sure you really evaluate your priorities when paying for all the details of a wedding. Your pictures and spouse are the only thing that stay with you after the big day. Can you simplify some of the details to allow for a budget for the photographer you love? Some of the most simple weddings have been the most beautiful I have experienced. Remember you can purchase the copyright and albums from me after the wedding too! The SECOND consideration is style. Choose a photographer who has a well-rounded style. Trendy images are so fun and modern, but some classic style is well needed too. Being a professional still requires knowing how to achieve quality work. With digital enhancing and affordable consumer cameras widely available one can make most any image look good...but this is different than quality work. Don't settle for second-rate to justify those expensive cream puffs for your guests. The THIRD quality you want to look for is the photographer's personality. I have heard so many couples who say their day was overshadowed by a stressed-out ornery photographer. The photographer needs to be able to maintain a professional demeaner and control, all while making you laugh and giving you space to enjoy the day. The time spent taking pictures is a large part of your day and should be fun!

Here's the beautiful family that ventured out on a frosty cold day with me for a photo shoot. The snow was deep and soft, and it made for a beautiful setting. It was a hoot to watch the little ones who just came from 70 degree weather in Texas to this winter wonderland. Their little noses were red, but they are darling! Here's Corkie, Pepper, and Toby. They are getting so big and so fun! They enjoy being outside, and can't get enough attention from the kids. They really love all people and will be a great family dog for someone.

Toby- what a great little guy! He is very mild compared to the others. He enjoys exploring by himself, especially when outside. He is quiet and loves to snuggle. He will lay his head on your shoulder instead of the usual puppy-in-your-face attention we get from the others.

Corkie- what a spit-fire! She has been the leader of the litter. All along she has been the first to experience anything new, including climbing out of the pen. She is spunky and fun-loving. Her little growl is funny as she romps and plays with the others.

Peppermint -"Pepper", is a real sweetie. She is always on someone's heal and just can't get enough "people time." She is very attentive to what one has to say to her. She has the biggest, roundest, eyes and seems to look at you as if she knows exactly what you are saying to her.

Oh what a beautiful morning! The frost was just hanging in the air this morning because it was so cold and still. As the sun rose over the mountains it created 2 "ice rainbows" (don't know what else to call it!) It was literally breath-taking. Look how intense the white light is. I hurried out so fast that I didn't even put on a coat! I didn't want to miss my photo opportunity. By the time I got back inside, my fingers wouldn't work! But, I think it was worth the sacrifice, don't you?

PS I sent this shots to the weather stations and received a very flattering comment that "these were some of the best shots they have received from a local source in a long time." He also described the ice rainbow as this:

"The bright lights on the side are sundogs - just elongated more than usual. There is almost a solar pillar in the middle, but those are usually by themselves without the sundogs. I'll try to get some of our weather guys to show it on TV this afternoon or evening."

We were lucky to have Stan and Frankie come from Wyoming to visit. We see them occasionally when Mom is here from Germany. They are so good to make the 3 hour drive just to see us! These amazing people were instrumental in fellowshiping our family to join the church over 25 years ago. Look at what their efforts have done. Now there's 2 temple marriages, a mission served, and 8 children who have been born into families with the gospel. It's amazing what one person can do to spread the gospel! We love our friends and thank them for loving us enough to bring the truth to our lives. My H is especially smitten with Stan. I like to think he is standing in for my Dad as he plays with her and holds her on his lap.

It looks very lovely with the tree and holiday decorations. There is indeed no place like home. We are so blessed to have a beautiful home and lovely things to keep in it. Most of all we are blessed to have family and friends to fill it with.

New jammies, and a new ornament to hang on the tree. This is just one of our Christmas eve traditions. We usually stay home, take it easy and enjoy each other. This year we tried making gingerbread men for the first time. They were pretty good, especially with cream cheese frosting. Santa seemed to enjoy them with his egg nog in a Santa mug that was made by Grandma Doone years ago (before we were even a family yet!) Ethan took time out for a nap... a very LONG winter nap! We all enjoyed a BIG dinner of ham and cheesy potatoes, and our favorite...egg nog!!!

This sweet little girl is our "middle child" puppy. Pepper was born #4 of five. She is very easy going and doesn't make a fuss about much. However, when given a moment to her mama alone, she makes the most of it. She loves to snuggle and will make her way up under your chin to bury her face in your neck. She likes to play and if you aren't careful, she will nip your nose! She is 1 month old now and weighs about 2 pounds. We are so excited for her to be going to a great new home. Her new family is very lucky indeed!

Today we traveled far to Malad where my brother lives. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner consisting of Roast Beast (prime rib!), shrimp, garlic potatoes, salads, and for dessert cheesecake and candies homemade by Grammy. There were great surprises for everyone including a rock concert performed by the kids.

We found Santa at the Layton Hills Mall on our way home from Grantsville. There was some frustration with rules against picture taking. I managed to sneak a couple of the kids and the "Big Guy" anyway. Well, the most important thing is that they got to tell him what was on their minds. (Everyone except for Dax, of course:)

This year our annual Christmas party with the Pierson family was at Dawn's house. Ethan made a grand entrance in a Santa Suit stuffed with balloons. Everyone roared with laughter and cheered him on in his festive promenade. We enjoyed soup for lunch and lots of yummy treats! Then we gathered downstairs to exchange gifts.(I don't know anyone besides Dawn who could make an unfinished basement so attractive and homey!) There were fun surprises for everyone. Pierse had his turn to be "Santa" and hand out the presents. He did a fine job! The best part of the day was being together. The new babies Kate, and Bridgette brought so much joy and fun as well as the anticipation of Garrett and Lindsey's new little one. We all had a bit of heartache as we thought of Truxton serving in Iraq. We all wish he were here instead, but honor his noble choice to be serving our country. Megan had a life-size cardboard replica of him there. It was great! It's too bad that life keeps us all from being together more. We sure cherish the memories!

Ethan made these fun little blocks for me at scouts. He couldn't leave it wrapped until Christmas and insisted I open it early. It is a great little decoration that interestingly became a fun joke through the holidays. The blocks would get scrambled to create different messages. Here's pictures of some of them. This is some of the fun of having family staying at your house. We've had Grammy, Allen and Troy here for several days. It is so great that everyone has a place to stay. It just adds to the fun to wake up each morning and see what my blocks have to say!

Happy Birthday Troy!!!

Mom and I felt like Troy's birthday tends to get lost in the holiday happenings, so we planned a big bash this year and managed to keep it a secret from him until all our wonderful guests started showing up. We were lucky to have big turn out with some of my favorite neighbors as well as some wonderful friends of ours who we haven't spent time with for 16 years or more. Troy was thrilled and kept telling me what a great time he had visiting with family and friends and making some new friends too. The food was awesome! We had a Fiesta theme with a taco bar, chicken enchillada soup, 7-layer dip, and lots of chips and salsa. I made water punch for the first time. It was so yummy, and very easy. My favorite is to put sliced limes in it and some cranberrys for a festive color. For dessert we had pumpkin spice cake with cream cheese frosting and blueberry crumble. MMMMMM!

Kindergarten Program Dec. 20, 2007

Today the kindergarteners performed their wonderful Christmas program for their very lucky parents. The teachers helped each child make a reindeer t-shirt with the child's handprint as antlers. This has been one of my favorite traditions as each of my 4 kids were in kindergarten. Hannah almost had to miss it as she came down with strep throat yesterday. However, we got her in to the Dr. and started an antibiotic in time. It did bring tears to my eyes as they sang their songs.(Part of that, I must admit, is knowing this will be my last child performing in the Christmas program) Some of Miss. H's favorites are "Too Fat for the Chimney" "Up on the House-top" and "Christmas Cookies and Holiday Hearts". My favorite (tear-jerker) is when they sing "Silent Night" accompanied by sign language. Precious!
(The handsome little guy next to her is her friend Zeke. He gave her a handmade card for her birthday with a picture he had drawn of the two of them in front of the temple. Hmmmm?!)

Grammy arrived today from Germany. We are so lucky because this year she will spend almost 3 weeks with us for Christmas. We are thrilled to have a new bedroom for her to sleep in at our house! (She did have to bring her own mattress, although not all the way from Germany, just Salt Lake City). She also came with an entire suitcase full of just chocolate! She took the time to visit each of the Grandkid's classrooms this year. She brought candy for every child in those 6 classrooms and a special box of chocolates for their teachers. It was great fun to hear her talk about Christmas in Germany and see the kids' enthusiasm to hear about "her" country. The chocolate was great too! Frohe Weihnachten!!! (Merry Christmas)

December 15, Grandma Hogan and Aunt Kathy

Tonight our very special friends Grandma Carol and Aunt Taffy (Kathy) came for a Holiday Celebration with us and our cousins. They truly are very special people in our lives. We are so blessed by their love and example. Every year they give our family a new Christmas story. This year it was "The Last Straw". It's about a camel who is asked to carry gifts to the new King. It comes to seem that his burden is too great. Then a child pleads with him to carry the proverbial last straw. This load literally brings the proud camel to his knees. Then from the humble manger at tiny hand reaches out and touches the camel's nose. His pain seemed to disappear and he could no longer feel his burden. From that time on there was no burden great or small that the camel would not gladly carry. WE can all learn a magnificent lesson from this humble camel. Christ has indeed "touched" each one of us in one way or another and we should gladly, with JOY carry the burdens we are asked to carry. :)

Tonight we enjoyed decorating our home for the holidays. Everyone was thrilled to dig out their favorite ornaments to hang on the tree. One of my favorite things is our little Christmas Gingerbread village. The ferris wheel turns with lights and sweet music along with the sounds of little Ginger-kids squealing with delight. It truly is a happy place. Some of us even got Decked-out in Holiday attire. Stockings were meant to be worn on the feet afterall. (Weren't they?) Notice poor Lucy dog who is patiently waiting delivery of her puppies. She looks slightly uncomfortable. (Sorry about the double pictures. I don't know how to take one of them off!)

Surprise Package from Germany Nov 14-2007

Tonight we had a surprise delivered by our favorite postman. It was a very mangled, smashed up box. We were thrilled to to find a beautiful Nativity set that Grammy had sent us from Germnay that was completely without damage inside. The set comes from an Evangelical Mission in Poland. The sisters there make the Nativities to raise funds for the poor, and orphaned. The pieces are beautful, very detailed hand-made figures. Inside the baby's filling has been placed the Bible verse John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosever believes in Him will have everlasting life." The facial expressions represent the 9 fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) Peace, Patience, Self-Control, Love, Meekness, Joy, Kindness, Goodness, & Faithfulness. The characters are posable and completely kid-friendly. The kids love having something so special that is OK to touch. It will be a favorite tradition for our family to display such a beautiful herloom gift. It is a great token for us to remember the most wonderful story ever in history, when God sent His precious Son, Jesus to this earth to save us. Thanks Grammy!!!

Holiday Joy!

My two little Darlings were Mary and Joseph at our Ward Nativity. They were amazing!!! A man in our ward was singing a beautiful version of "Oh Holy Night" as the curtain openend to this scene. The kids stood there as the entire song was sung. It was so amazing! The spirit was very strong and the audience was silent! I hope you all can get a glimpse of the beautiful spirit this season. May you all have His peace and love in your hearts!!! Merry Christmas.

Oh the joy!!! We are so thrilled to welcome 5 new little Dashchunds to our chaos. They are all well and strong...and SO CUTE!!! Dax says Lucy wins the title of "Mother Dog of the Year". I would have to agree. We have 2 brown females, 1 black female, and 2 black males. They will be ready for new homes around January 17. Everyone will have all their shots and their dewclaws removed. The price for a female is $400 and a male is $350. A $150 deposit will hold a puppy until they are ready to go.

Happy Thanksgiving

For Thanksgiving we had the privilege of traveling to New Mexico to visit my grandparents. It was a great trip! Of course the highlight was spending time with Grandpa and Grandma, but we also enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at a cowboy cafe, and hiked an arch in Southern Utah on the way home. The memories are priceless and we feel especially blessed to have each other!

Miss H lost her first tooth today! This has been quite and ordeal all week with all her brothers and her dad helping yank. She was determined to get the thing out wheter it was ready or not. So, we are looking forward to a visit from the tooth fairy. I hope she's listening!!!
